A Bounty of Blessings

As many gather with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day for a time of feasting and fun, let us consider the many benefits that we enjoy, and give thanks. Despite the troubles that affect us as we journey through this life, we have much to be grateful for. Each one of us has been gifted with life and breath in our own physical body. We have been given a creative mind and expressive emotions that reflect our inner self as we interact with each other and with the world around us. We are given our daily bread to enable us to do the ordinary tasks of each day and to be of service to others.

We have eyes to see a beautiful sunset or the sparkle in a child’s eyes. We can feel a gentle breeze or the soft caress of a loved one. We have a nose that can smell the delicious aroma of the food we eat. With our ears we hear the spontaneous laughter of children playing or music that stirs our emotions. We have a sense of taste that can distinguish between sweet, savory, sour, bitter, and salty. Our bodies have been fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator, and we have been given much from His bounty of blessings. It is fitting that we give thanks to the Lord and Giver of Life for His goodness.

Homeopathy and Bach flowers are natural gifts that can be used to improve our health and rebalance our emotions. Many factors, experiences, influences, and stressors cause our state of health to shift up and down the spectrum of well-being. Symptoms on all levels – physical, emotional, and mental – reveal that our body is struggling in its effort to restore optimal functioning. The goal of homeopathy is to move one’s state of health up the continuum towards more freedom and fulfillment in the pursuit of temporal happiness in this world.

Homeopaths participate in this process of restoring health, by studying symptoms to find a matching homeopathic medicine. And homeopaths recognize that the body has been designed to heal itself as much as possible. When the body needs some help, homeopathy provides assistance. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the Father of Homeopathy, recognized that, “God, the sustainer of humanity, reveals His wisdom and goodness by openly setting forth for the medical-art practitioner what has to be taken away in the diseases that befall humanity here below, in order to annihilate them and so to establish health.” ~ Footnote to Aphorism 17 of the Organon of the Medical Art

The complexity and efficiency of the human body reflect the wisdom of the Creator’s design. We can never achieve perfect health in this life. Our bodies will continue to struggle with illness and disease until we take our last breath. But God in His goodness has provided help for His creatures. As our wonderfully created bodies strive to maintain health moment by moment, ultimately the removal of all disease and true healing comes from God.

May this season of Thanksgiving be an opportunity to respond in humble gratitude and thankfulness to our Creator Who does all things well.
