Remedies – Phosphorus

Common name: Phosphorus

Chemical formula: P

In 1669, an alchemist in Hamburg, Germany discovered the element Phosphorus, while he was heating urine residue. Suddenly the alchemical vessel filled with fumes, a shining liquid dripped from its opening and burst into flames. He captured the liquid in a glass vessel, stopped it, and for several hours, the now solid substance continued to gleam with a pale-green light and flickering flames. He named the new substance Phosphorus, which in Greek means light bearing.

Along with hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon, phosphorus is an element that is essential to life. DNA consists of these five elements, and in the form of ATP, adenosine triphosphate, Phosphorus is part of the body’s energy system as it converts glucose into glycogen to maintain the body’s blood sugar levels. Today, phosphates are used in fireworks, processed foods, soft drinks, antifreeze, laundry and dish detergents, and fertilizers.

The homeopathic remedy Phosphorus is another polycrest remedy and has many uses. Phosphorus types are usually tall and slender with long eyelashes, long legs, and long fingers. Red heads with freckles are often Phosphorus types. Those who could benefit from this remedy are bubbly, extroverted, affectionate folks who love to be around people. They are sympathetic but can be superficial in their many friendships. They love sleep and feel better afterwards. Their physical complaints include a tendency for heavy bleeding and respiratory complaints. Colds quickly descend into the chest. Coughs are dry, irritating, and tickling, with tightness in the chest. Asthma, bronchitis, croup, hoarseness, sore throats, and pneumonia are common symptoms. Gastrointestinal problems include gastritis with vomiting as soon as the water warms the stomach, watery and blood-streaked diarrhea, and indigestion with burning pains.
