Remedies – Platinum metallicum

Common name: Platinum

Chemical formula: Pt

Rarer than gold and known for its natural silvery-white sheen that never tarnishes, platinum is a rare element located in row 6, column 10 of the periodic table. Sixteenth century Spanish explorers found an unidentified white metal mixed with gold deposits in riverbeds of present-day Colombia. They called it platina, which means little silver. Platinum is denser than gold and silver. Because it was difficult to melt and separate from highly sought after gold, platinum was considered an impurity and discarded. In 1751, platinum was added to the periodic table as a distinct element and noble metal. In the late 1800s, it became possible to fashion platinum into fine jewelry, and platinum jewelry was marketed as a symbol of wealth and status, as it is today. Platinum is also used in laboratory equipment, dentistry, electrical contacts, and vehicle catalytic converters to reduce emissions. Seventy-two percent of platinum is produced in the country of South Africa.

As a homeopathic remedy, Platina has an affinity to the female reproductive organs. Menses can be painful and profuse with clots and a bearing down sensation. This remedy can be considered when there is excessive premature sexual development before puberty. Platina can be helpful for those who suffer from multiple personality disorders or megalomania. For cramping pains and spasms in the eyes, chest, jaws, uterus, head, or extremities, Platina may bring relief. There can be localized coldness or numbness of single parts. It is a useful remedy for constipation in pregnancy or from traveling due to constantly changing food and water.  As with all homeopathic remedies, not all symptoms will be present in one person, and there are many more symptoms that are not listed.
