“Let us not fear to plunge into life; we are here to gain experience and knowledge, and we shall learn but little unless we face realities and seek to our utmost.”
~Edward Bach
Clematis, commonly known as Old Man’s Beard or Traveler’s Joy, is native to the UK and is common throughout parts of south England and Wales. It occurs as far north as the southern highlands of Scotland. This fast growing climbing perennial shrub is considered an invasive weed in the United States and New Zealand. Creamy white lacy flowers are followed by a star-like cluster of seeds, each attached to a feathery plume which disperses the seed as it is carried by the wind.
In The Twelve Healers, Dr. Bach wrote of Clematis, “Those who are dreamy, drowsy, not fully awake, no great interest in life. Quiet people, not really happy in their present circumstances, living more in the future than in the present; living in hopes of happier times, when their ideals may come true. In illness some make little or no effort to get well, and in certain cases may even look forward to death, in hope of better times; or maybe, meeting again some beloved one whom they have lost.”
Emotional disharmony indicating Clematis:
- Daydreaming of the future
- Lack of focus
- Absentminded
- “Living in their own world”
Positive character qualities of Clematis:
- Interested in the world around
- Enjoying life in the present
- A sense of purpose
Daily use of the Bach flowers provides gentle emotional support. Negative attitudes are transformed into positive virtues as the body’s self-curative potential strengthens emotional health and restores inner harmony.
“And may we ever have gratitude in hearts that the great Creator in all His glory has placed the herbs in the field for our healing.“ ~ Edward Bach
