is a holistic system of remedial therapy that prompts the body’s own healing response with miniscule doses of natural substances called “remedies.” These potentized remedies are prepared from plants, minerals, animals, and other materials that are found in nature. A homeopathic remedy acts as a stimulus to correct the underlying imbalance that has weakened the body.
The word “homeopathy” is derived from Greek words meaning “similar suffering.” Thus, homeopathy attempts to assist the body’s natural healing response by means of a homeopathic remedy that produces an effect similar to the disease or suffering. The body’s response to this stimulus is to correct the imbalance and restore health to the individual. The primary tenant of homeopathy is based on the Natural Law of Similars or “like cures like.”
Complex systems within the human body work together harmoniously to maintain homeostasis, but the body can become weakened by the effects of trauma, stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, etc. Homeopathy reinforces the body’s work of self-healing, strengthens its resiliency, and helps build immunity and vitality.
Although the Law of Similars has been evident since the time of Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicine, who lived 400 years before the birth of Christ, his observations were largely ignored until Paracelsus, the 15th century Swiss physician, who became known as the Father of Chemistry. He believed that living things were maintained by internal chemical systems that could become imbalanced, that this balance could be restored by the ingestion of chemical substances in small doses. His experimentation and observation confirmed that like does indeed cure like.
It would take the genius of Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a brilliant German doctor who lived during the 18th century Age of Enlightenment, to confirm the principle of “like cures like” and challenge the dominant medical practices of bloodletting, leeching, and purging. He set forth clear principles in his book, The Organon of the Healing Art, which underwent six editions as Hahnemann experimented continually throughout his lifetime to refine his observations in order to develop a rational system of natural healing with proven results.
In so doing, Samuel Hahnemann, the Father of Homeopathy, gave this world an invaluable inheritance which continues to bring health and healing to over 500 million people world wide.
