If you’ve ever cooked a steak on an outdoor barbeque grill, then you’re familiar with charcoal. Charcoal has been an important source of fuel since ancient times and is the preferred fuel used in a blacksmith’s forge. Specially trained craftsmen called colliers made charcoal centuries ago. Charcoal is made by heating wood in the absence of oxygen, for example, by burning wood in a pit and covering it so that it heats up slowly. During this process, impurities are burned off while the wood partially burns, changing into chunks of almost pure carbon. This form of carbon burns hotter, cleaner, and longer than wood. Carbon is an element that is essential for life. In the Periodic Table of Elements, carbon is found in row 2, column 14. Activated charcoal is a form of carbon that has been further processed from charcoal. This finely powdered substance is highly absorbent and porous and is used to purify water and air. It can be ingested in capsule form to bind toxins from food poisoning or drug overdose. Learn how to make charcoal and activated charcoal here. Activated charcoal can be used in natural toothpaste to clean and whiten teeth. See recipe below.

This remedy has been called the “corpse reviver” because of its powerful effect on the weakened vital force. The collapse is accompanied by coldness, cold breath, cold sweat, and cold extremities.
